Capillaries and Tubing
In chromatography, capillaries and tubing made of a wide variety of materials, adapted to the respective application, are used to transport gases and liquids.
In HPLC, these are mainly stainless steel capillaries with 1/32″ or 1/16″ OD, as well as tubes made of the polymers PEEK and PTFE.
Stainless steel and copper tubing from 1/8″ to 1/4″ OD are the materials of choice in GC.
A special feature is stainless steel capillaries made of INNOSteel, a tubing for packed GC columns coated on the inside with silica, which combines the inertness of glass columns with the flexibility and break resistance of stainless steel columns.
Tubes made of polymer are used when the pressures are correspondingly low or metal capillaries are not suitable, e.g. in ion chromatography.
